elaine sewell Jones garden

Los Angeles, California

The residence of Quincy Jones, one of the foremost architects in Southern California during the 1950s and 60s, was called "the Barn" because of its immense, high-ceilinged living room space. This project for Elaine Jones transformed the paved motor court into a courtyard garden which provides private space, surrounded on two sides by the house and studio sheltered from the street by garden walls. Use of simple forms and natural materials is a reflection of traditional Japanese architecture in Quincy Jones' work. The garden was published in the Los Angeles Times.
